Professional Background
During a professional career which commenced in 1993, Lee has worked in increasingly senior finance roles within a variety of organisations. These include private sector organisations from globally listed corporates, to small and medium-sized businesses, as well as public sector work at both state and federal level.
Throughout the past 10 years of his career, Lee has worked at Senior Finance Executive / Financial Controller levels, being responsible for the full finance function.
During this time, Lee has found that the most enjoyable part of his work was when working as in internal consultant. To do this effectively, Lee needed:
- A thorough understanding of the area of business involved.
- Empathy with those he was working with, in particular where change management was involved.
- The ability to understand and document current systems with all the inputs, outputs, people & functions relying on the system.
- The skills to identify the strengths, weaknesses gaps (potential control issues), and inefficiencies in systems.
- In conjunction with the people involved with all facets of the system, develop improvements to existing systems, or completely new systems, whatever the situation demanded.

- Work with users until they were completely comfortable with all aspects of the system.
- Provide documentation of the entire system, and training to all users; make them experts!
- Encourage users to cross-train their colleagues. This avoids some operations coming to a standstill just because someone is absent. This should never happen.
- Periodically review the system if and when necessary.

Projects Completed
- The conversion of a customer order database into an invoice generating tool. A link was then developed to import the invoices into the financial system. The old invoice generation and processing tasks took one workday. After the system change, it took 3 minutes.
- Rationalise the number of suppliers a business had from the ‘000’s to the ‘00s. One example of efficiency gained was the reduction of spending in one area from $1.2M per annum with 12 suppliers, to $1m per annum with one supplier. Such efficiencies and savings were replicated over the entire purchasing function.
- Introduction of an asset bar-coding system to track the location of equipment whether it was located in the warehouse, or any of a number of remote building sites. This, coupled with the assigning of assets to a responsible employee, prevented pilfering and reduced damage.
- Being involved in business planning, forecasting, budgeting, board reporting, and scenario analysis. I also develop automated tools to assist in this process.
- Ensuring a company attained ISO 9001 quality certification by writing, testing, and implementing finance and administrative procedures.
- Reviewing a Thai business and preparing a report to local and regional management on procedures and staffing for all aspects of the business. Setting up of reporting systems for the business.
- Assisting with the setup of an Indonesian business from an accounting and finance perspective.
- Working with South-East Asian regional (5 countries) IT, marketing, and product development staff on regional data warehousing, stock management, and transfer pricing projects.
- Sourcing, assessing, and managing outsourced suppliers for: banking, leased vehicles, customer credit checking & reporting, fully integrated management information system, & telecommunications.
- Development and production of financial reporting and analysis tools and processes utilised across 5 countries.
- Participation in negotiation of Australian portion of Asia-Pacific wide outsourced logistics contract. Overseeing implementation of above, including importing, exporting, warehousing, and road freight pertaining to dangerous goods.
Thus, whilst his formal background is as a finance professional, Lee's diverse background ensures that he brings to this consultancy someone with vast experience in many cultures, functions, and organisation types and sizes. We know that in conjunction with the global network we work with, we can help your business with any problem / issue it may have.
